The 19th Engineer Battalion began construction of the pipe line from Qui Nhon to An Khe in 1965 through 1966. From An Khe to Pleiku 1966 through 1967.

They first ran a line from Qui Nhon to An Khe. There were a few Battalions involved such as the 35th Engineer. Some were building bridges, strong points, landing zones, pump stations, tank farms. From 1966 through 1967, they built the line from An Khe to Plieku, Camp Holloway Air Base, finishing in 1967.

Before the line was built there were Transportation Company’s that convoyed the fuel by truck, (Tractor Trailer.) Also convoy support  gun trucks one of which was called “Whispering Death” equipped with electrically operated quad 50s.
